Portugal: Arbitration & Dispute Resolution

The Patent Mediation and Arbitration Centre (PMAC) forms part of the Unified Patent Court (UPC). Its rules of operation are available here. It operates independently, but carries out its tasks in close contact and cooperation with the committees/bodies of the UPC which will have to take decisions in relation to the operation of the Centre.

Investment Treaty Arbitration has been criticized for posing a threat to host states' regulatory authority, especially concerning environmental protection.

For the second year in a row, PLMJ is on the list of the 100 best law firms in the world for international arbitration, according to Global Arbitration Review (GAR), the leading international publication in this area. PLMJ was the first Portuguese firm to appear on GAR’s annual ranking, having made the list last year.
