Canada Signals Stronger Forced Labour Import Measures Following New U.S. Tariff Threat
The United States Trade Representative has found that Canada and 59 other trading partners have failed to effectively enforce bans on forced labour imports, proposing additional tariffs of 10-12.5% on goods from these countries. While goods qualifying under CUSMA rules of origin would be exempt, Canada faces pressure to strengthen its enforcement regime despite existing prohibitions and transparency legislation.
