Affleck Greene McMurtry LLP proudly congratulates partner Hilary Book on her recognition in the 2026 Lexpert 500 Leading Lawyers in Canada — Cross-Border Guide. This distinguished directory, published annually by Lexpert, profiles Canada's foremost legal practitioners across a range of practice areas and serves as a trusted resource for U.S. attorneys, in-house counsel, and business professionals seeking Canadian legal expertise for cross-border matters.
Hilary's Practice and Achievements
Hilary Book focuses her trial and appellate litigation practice on complex commercial disputes. Her work spans contractual and shareholder disputes, commercial real estate litigation, professional negligence claims, and fraud and conspiracy matters. She brings nearly two decades of courtroom experience to every case. Her particular strengths include forensic accounting issues, asset-freezing orders, and civil contempt proceedings — areas that frequently arise in cross-border disputes.
Her standing in the legal community extends well beyond directory recognition. Hilary currently serves as President of The Advocates' Society for the 2025–2026 term, leading Canada's preeminent association of litigation counsel, representing more than 6,000 members nationwide. Benchmark Canada has named her a Litigation Star and placed her on its Top 100 Women in Litigation list. She also holds a fellowship with the Litigation Counsel of America, an invitation-only society that selects members on the basis of excellence and ethical reputation.
Hilary has contributed meaningfully to the profession through her leadership roles. She chaired The Advocates' Society's Standing Committee on Advocacy and Policy. She also led the task force behind Delay No Longer, a call for action addressing systemic delay in Canada's civil justice system.
