On Monday, June 1, 2026, the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) hosted a high-level stakeholders meeting and Fireside Chat titled “Accelerating Nigeria’s Innovation System” in Abuja, Nigeria. The event was co-curated by the Federal Ministry of Industry, Trade and Investment and WIPO, as part of the official visit of the WIPO Director-General, Mr. Daren Tang, to the WIPO Nigeria Office.

This gathering served as a platform for senior government officials, innovation stakeholders, and private sector leaders to advance dialogue on the nation’s intellectual property (IP) and innovation landscape. The discussions focused extensively on strategies to accelerate Nigeria's innovation ecosystem, addressing the current state of IP commercialization, structural support for creators, and the economic potential of robust IP frameworks.

Angela Adebayo Agbe-Davies attended as a private sector stakeholder supporting her industry in the conversation on driving IP development and protection in Nigeria.

Following the formal program, a dedicated networking session allowed stakeholders to connect directly, exchange insights, and engage with key leadership and industry specialists.

Here are some highlights of the event:
